CIDESCO Celebrates 70 Years

Founded in 1946 with its headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, the CIDESCO (Comité International d’Esthétique et de Cosmétologie) is the world’s most prestigious qualification in the field of aesthetics and beauty therapy and has set the global standard.

This year CIDESCO celebrates 70 years, culminating in the annual World Congress and Exhibition in Dublin, Ireland, September 22-26.

“To mark the event, we’ll host a grand gala dinner at Double Tree by Hilton during the congress,” Anna-Cari, CIDESCO international president, tells SPA+CLINIC.

“We expect delegates from around the world to be present and celebrate this great achievement with us. It will be an emotional evening for us and a night to remember.”

CIDESCO is a global not-for-profit organisation solely driven by its members’ passion to ensure standards of quality are upheld across the board and are continually improving.

Membership is open to beauty education centres of the world as well as individual students looking to achieve the internationally recognised diploma.

“In the early days, the most common treatments were facials, manicures, pedicures and also makeup,” says Anna-Cari. “Salons that had the facilities boasted hot and cold water therapies and some offered hair removal.

“Electrical equipment has always been an important part of the CIDESCO syllabus. The introduction of light therapies, such as laser and IPL treatments for hair removal as well as skin rejuvenation has been the most revolutionary for the industry.”

With an ever-expanding presence in Australia, CIDESCO is proud to announce The College of Natural Beauty, based in Brisbane, as its newest school.

In other news, CIDESCO Australia now offers membership packages to industry professionals and students, that can be obtained instantly online. These give subscribers access to exclusive deals on insurance, professional magazines and products.

And how will local members celebrate the 70th anniversary?

“In the academy, we are going to offer a client special of a body massage and facial, plus celebratory cake post-treatment,” says Dianne Miles, head of section, Australia.

“Our schools will run competitions between students about the history of the organisation.”

Running over five days, The Congress and Exhibition in Dublin provides the opportunity for beauty and skin professionals to discuss burgeoning global trends, learn new skills and network at an international level.

“Australian delegates will be attending,” confirms Dianne. “In our huge country, communicating with the international CIDESCO community is essential. Skype and other social media portals make this easy.”
