Spring Carnival: Not To Be Mist

It’s racing season and countdown to the Melbourne Cup is on!

The surge of extra bookings from clients heading to the races won’t go un-noticed, (especially if your business is close to one of the tracks).

Whether they’ve made a visit to for special occasion makeup, a spray tan, or mani/pedi, if you’re seeking a “safe bet” to upsell to these customers, look no further than a hydrating mist.

In this multitasking era, your clients might be skipping essential skincare steps because they don’t want the hassle of layering  products. Double (or triple) duty products can eliminate a few steps while giving skin nourishment and protection it needs.

Mists hit a multitasking tri-fector: A pre-makeup primer providing extra hydration, a setting spray to ensure your handiwork goes the distance, and a refresher to be spritzed throughout the day/night.

Monika Radulovic (winner of Miss Universe Australia 2015) looked stunning Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes Day held at the Royal Randwick Racecourse last Saturday. Celebrity makeup artist Alex Rosas created her look for the event using Kryolan professional makeup, and spoke to SPA+CLINIC about his technique:

“I love mists. I am the advocate for them! They keep the skin supple and they keep makeup looking a little bit more radiant,” he says.

“Whenever I do a makeover I use a mist first thing, and last. Monika was no exception – and I used the same product on her for both spritzes. It is moisturising but it also contains a fixing agent, so sets the makeup as well as preps.”

“I spray the mist all over the face and décolletage, then I’ll put on primer, while the skin is still wet. It dries together, but I don’t wait for long before – just enough time for it to absorb. You don’t want it super wet with too much ‘slip’, but it’s good to have a slightly dampish texture to put your makeup on.

“Using it as a finishing spray is vital. Not just to keep the makeup in place, but it’s what keeps a full face of makeup really dewy, illuminated and glowing.

“They’re also great if the customer wants to touch up with powder throughout the day as makeup might breakdown around the T-zone, in the heat. If the mist is applied straight after, it takes away that “just powdered” look and gives more of a satin finish.”

“Spas salons and clinics should ramp up their retail of skin mists in time for spring carnival racing. They are really popular now. I know from my experience from working from different retail brands, how many customers ask for them, are really intrigued and interested by them. They’re beautiful for summer weather and perfect for holidays. I just love them.”
