In a new age of sexual medicine, hot shots are giving lacklustre libidos a powerful injection of arousal.

The non-surgical injectable procedures we use to rejuvenate faces are giving new thrust to sex lives, improving the quality of, or re-igniting arousal and orgasms in women, and thereby relationships.

The so-called O Shot (aka Orgasm Shot) technique, patented and trademarked by US surgeon Dr Charles Runels, uses a patient’s own blood-derived growth factors to rejuvenate and re-sensitise the clitoris and vaginal walls.

This technique has been shown to improve issues of sexual dysfunction, including arousal and anorgasmia.

This is the same surgeon who popularised the “Vampire Facelift” (or, rather, Kim Kardashian did it for him in her famous Twitter post).

At SPA+CLINIC we’ve written about this subject many times in the past 3 years. As everything these days, all new concepts take a while to catch on until “suddenly” they’re in the mainstream conscious. It’s a bit like the “overnight” success of an Academy Award-winning actor who’s actually been slogging it out on the dark side for years.

But we predict that this past weekend’s A5M conference could be the tipping point for the O Shot and other sexual healing advances in sexual medicine starting to get their due exposure.

Perth plastic surgeon Dr Jayson Oates first specialised as an Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) and then as a facial cosmetic surgeon. However, he told the A5M gathering, he was repeatedly asked by patients as a “by the way” for advice about improving the function and appearance of their genitalia and, in so doing, the quality of their sex life.

It could be said this changed the thrust of Dr Oates’ specialty at his Academy Laser Clinics.

At the The AustralAsian Academy of Anti-Ageing Medicine’s (A5M) 11th annual Healthy Ageing and Aesthetic Medicine Conference at Melbourne Sofitel on Collins, August 5-6, Dr Oates gave a wide-ranging – and, without trivialising the issue, very entertaining – presentation on Advances in Sexual Lifestyle Medicine.

He discussed delivery on the O Shot, as well as variously enhancements and enlargements to female and male genitalia with HA dermal fillers.

WHAT IS THE O SHOT

Dr Oates says fundamental to the procedure is Platelet Rich Plasma therapy (PRP). This involves taking vials of a patient’s own blood and spinning them in a centrifuge (as the patient waits) to extract plasma rich in growth factors.

The plasma is separated from the rest of the blood fluids and reinjected (a series of superficial injections) to the desired treatment areas to stimulate healing collagenesis to rejuvenate the skin.

“The PRP is injected in a soft tissue just inside the vaginal canal behind the clitoris,” said Dr Oates. “Patients report that it is relatively painless.

“Results can be noticed from after a week to several weeks, depending on the woman’s health and last for eight to 12 months.”
