Keynote Speaker at the 2013 Global Spa & Wellness Summit
Nobel Peace Prize winner and one of world’s most popular spiritual leaders will address delegates at the seventh-annual conference
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, has accepted an invitation to speak at the Global Spa & Wellness Summit’s annual conference, which will be held in New Delhi, India in October. Winner of the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize and the first Nobel Laureate to be recognized for his concern for the global environment, he was recently named the most popular world leader in the U.S. and six European nations, according to a Harris Interactive poll conducted in May.
Describing himself as a simple Buddhist monk, His Holiness has authored more than 72 books and has travelled to more than 62 countries spanning six continents, meeting with presidents, prime ministers and crowned rulers of major nations. Since 1959 he has received over 84 awards, honorary doctorates and prizes in recognition of his message of peace, non-violence, inter-religious understanding, universal responsibility and compassion.
‘I’ve had the privilege of working on scientific projects with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and it’s difficult to imagine a more wide-ranging, compelling and inspiring thinker. Or one more dedicated to making the world a healthier place, whether economically, environmentally or ethically,’ said Dr. Kenneth Pelletier, clinical professor of medicine, University of Arizona and University of California, San Francisco. ‘I have no doubt that hearing him speak will (in keeping with the 2013 Summit theme) represent a truly ‘defining moment’ for conference delegates and the industry.’
The 2013 Summit, which takes place from October 5-7 at The Oberoi Gurgaon in New Delhi, will mark the first time that the conference will be held in India. Another Summit first is the Global Wellness Tourism Congress, which will bring together ministers of tourism and wellness tourism thought leaders to shape the best strategies to promote and grow this fast-emerging travel category.
The conference will also include other dedicated industry forums, a full roster of high-profile speakers and numerous social and networking events. The full schedule of speakers will be announced shortly.
‘There is no other conference that gives wellness and spa industry executives and leaders from around the world the opportunity to come together at one location,’ said Susie Ellis, chairman and CEO of the Summit. ‘We are deeply honored that His Holiness will be a keynote speaker.’
