Why Leaders Need To Prioritise Bringing Value To Their Employees

Four key pieces of advice from company leadership expert, Tara Tan.

In a time where work culture is more crucial than ever, understanding your team and providing a sense of leadership can dramatically impact the performance of your team. Gaining an insight into what drives your team, and also what goals they may have can be relayed into your company to provide a stronger performance, and also better team culture.

So, how do you bring value to your team? SPA+CLINIC spoke with Tara Tan, CEO and Founder of Grin Natural, the globally fastest-growing oral wellness brand for her key pieces of advice for leadership.

When asked how she managed to grow her company so quickly, Tara said “I learnt as a leader that it was essential to always think about how you can bring value to your employees, not just the work they can do for you. You need to always be thinking about how you can help your employees to grow and thrive, and how you can align their personal career goals with the needs of your company.”

For other entrepreneurs and leaders looking to emulate her success, Tara’s advice is:

  • Deep listening: Really listen to your team members, their wants, needs, fears and dreams. Only by practicing deep listening can you really get to know your employees and what style of leadership they respond to best.
  • Radical candour: Get good at giving honest feedback. Holding back from having tough conversations will only hurt your employees in the long run, as they won’t ever grow or improve if you’re too afraid to provide the necessary feedback.
  • Set a vision larger than yourself: The goal of your company can not just be about making revenue; it should also be about how you can give back to your community and bring value to other people’s lives. Giving your employees the opportunity to contribute to this creates a sense of purpose for you and your team.
  • Create opportunities for you employees to grow: Focus on career develop, leadership and training opportunities for your employees. By investing in their growth, you’ll be repaid ten-fold with motivated and engaged employees who love the work they do.
