September also marks the hosting of one of our favourite campaigns – Liptember; in which awareness and funds raised during the month of September will go towards women’s mental health. Foundations to receive these donations include the Centre of Women’s Mental Health, Lifeline, Batyr, RUOK?, The Jean Hailes Foundation and The Pretty Foundation.
Now in its ninth year, the national campaign encourages women to ‘kiss away the blues’ by wearing brightly-coloured Liptember lipsticks, sold through exclusive retailer Chemist Warehouse.
Led by a group of demographically and socially diverse men and women, Liptember is committed to improving the health of all Australian women who take on a myriad of responsibilities as mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, wives and partners. According to the Liptember website, currently the majority of mental health research is focused on men, and findings are then applied to both men and women alike; resulting in a number of programs and strategies that aren’t fully able to assist the female population’s mental health needs.
