Tell us why you’re excited to host BEAUTY & SPA Insiders
I am really looking forward to representing the industry as a business owner and skin expert, for a leading event that will inspire and motivate the beauty and spa industry in a really positive way. Being late October, it is the perfect time to celebrate the milestone of 2020 plus help to invigorate the industry in the lead up to Christmas. Most importantly, I am excited to introduce some key industry representatives that have been mentors of mine throughout my career. And of course, there will be plenty of industry leaders that I am really looking forward to meeting and understanding who they are and what inspires them in their businesses and on a daily basis.

Tell us how your typical day looks in a nutshell
Five to six times a week my day starts with an early F45 gym session. A couple of times a week, I also start my day with an LED light, I like to multi-task, so I meditate and manifest my daily and monthly goals at the same time. Mondays and Tuesdays, I work from my home office, working on my business. Wednesday – Saturday I perform clinical treatments. These days start at 8am: I like to plan and review clients’ skincare and treatment programs prior to their arrival. This helps me to establish proposed platforms and strategies in achieving the client’s key skin goals.

Who has been your biggest inspiration throughout your career?
Suzie Hoitink, founder of Clear Complexions, and a pioneer in the skin rejuvenation industry. She is feminine, chic, inspirational and a strong businesswoman. She is honest and complimentary and is always generous with her time. I have been fortunate throughout my career to speak along-side her at Beauty Expo Australia, have had the opportunity to listen to her speak at laser and skin conferences, and I have known her personally for nearly eight years. She’s also an ACT Telstra Businesswoman of the Year winner for her role in founding and building the Clear Complexions brand, and owner of seven Clear Complexions (now Artisan Aesthetic Clinics) between Canberra and Sydney. I couldn’t think of anyone else I would want to be my mentor.

Greatest achievement to date?
The re-opening of Skin By Sarah Hudson in 2017. I had the opportunity to work really closely with the designers JDV to custom-build the clinic around my daily treatment needs. The clinic shares my heart and soul and is a manifestation of my career across skin, laser and aesthetic therapies.

If you were a shoe, what would you be and why?
Jimmy Choo Heel. I love the attention to detail and quality of my Jimmy Choo heels. I can wear them all night and not have sore feet. As my wedding heels, they are 7 years old and look almost as good as the day I bought them.

Favourite quote?
“Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking our potential.” Winston Churchill.

What do you think are 3 traits of a good leader?

  • Being a hard worker – I have learned to be a really hard worker and not complain about it. It is my responsibility in my role as a business owner, boss, and industry skin expert
  • Being accountable for the mistakes you make. Equally being proud of your career achievements
  • Clarity in your vision, and the goals and standards you want to achieve

What do you love most about our industry?
My career has spanned over 27 years, and I have been lucky enough to be able to enjoy such a diverse career. Beginning my career as a Beauty Therapist, then re-training as the industry evolved in Dermal and Laser therapy. I have been a teacher and lecturer in Beauty Therapy collages, Tafe NSW, and post-graduate education. I am frequently invited to share my knowledge at industry events, work groups, seminars and panels, and am often asked to give my expert opinion for consumer and industry publications. Plus, I own my own clinic and skincare line, and I still perform treatments. I am so fortunate that I have been able to work across nearly all areas of our amazing industry!
