Get To Know Our Speakers: Dr Bruce Williamson

You may have heard us mention lately (more than a few times!) that we are very exciting to be hosting our very first B2B aesthetics industry event. Leading industry titles SPA+CLINIC and Professional Beauty have joined forces to present BEAUTY & SPA Insiders on May 27th – a unique summit for spa, salon and clinic practitioners and business owners alike.

Early Bird registrations are available until midnight Friday April 5th, and now that we have announced our stellar line-up of industry speakers in its entirety, we thought we’d give you the chance to get to know them a little better before the big day.

Dr Bruce Williamson, from SkinSmart Medical, will be speaking on the panel ‘Are Devices Worth Their Hefty Price Tags?’

Dr Williamson has worked in Skin Cancer and Cosmetic Medicine for over 25 years. He grew up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches swimming, surfing and sailing and had a lot of sun exposure himself in his early life and as consequence of this he has developed a particular interest in the use of Lasers and Energy Based systems for rejuvenating sun damaged skin. He offers a comprehensive range of non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures including various laser and energy based treatments, dermal fillers and muscle relaxant injections.

Tell us why you’re looking forward to speaking at BEAUTY & SPA Insiders
I’m looking forward to connecting with like minded people in our industry.

Tell us your daily routine in a nutshell
I enjoy waking up to a bullet proof coffee. Next I do some High Interval Training. In summer I swim in the harbour to cool off before heading into the clinic to see my morning patients. I have breakfast (break my fast) around 2pm and then see my afternoon patients. I often finish my day by reading some of the many medical updates, podcasts, interviews and articles that are in my inbox.

What is your favourite treatment/procedure to perform and why?
The vascular laser treatment I perform for Rosacea is very satisfying. The laser I often use is the 532nm KTP laser which allows me to trace individual blood vessels – this has instant results which impress patients and is very satisfying for me.

Your greatest accomplishment to date?
Helping build 18 Skin Cancer Clinics around Australia and then my Laser and Aesthetic Medicine Clinic in Balgowlah. And of course my great relationship with my wife.

Anything you would chose to redo or take back?
I should have started doing Cosmetic and Laser Medicine earlier.

What’s your favourite quote?
“What gets us into trouble is not what we don’t know but it’s what we know with absolute certainty that is wrong.” – Anonymous – sometimes attributed to Mark Twain

Name a song that has had an effect on your life
The Hunters and Collectors song – Throw Your Arms Around Me

What’s next for you and your business?
I have just bought two new devices – the Invasix Morpheus8 applicator to go with my InMode Machine, and Deka Onda Body Contouring System.

Most loved AND most hated industry trends you’ve seen throughout your career?
Most hated – Scoopon deals.
Most loved – Ketogenic Nutrition

What do you do to energise, and to wind down?
To energise – HIT High Intensity Interval training. To wind down I meditate – I have a MUSE device – an immersive meditation device that provides real-time feedback on your mental activity, heart rate, breathing, and body movements.
