If you haven’t already heard the exciting news, leading aesthetics industry titles SPA+CLINIC and Professional Beauty have joined forces to present their very first industry event, BEAUTY & SPA Insiders on May 27th – a unique summit for spa, salon and clinic practitioners and business owners alike.
Early Bird registrations are open until March 29th, and as we continue to announce our stellar line-up of industry speakers, we thought we’d give the chance to get to know them a little better before the big day.
Dr Kate Jameson, from Youth Lab Cosmetic Clinic, will be presenting on the topic ‘Why You Should Treat More Than Lips and Frown Lines’. Dr Kate Jameson is a full time Cosmetic Physician from Perth specialising in non-surgical procedures. Holding a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), she is also a full member of the Cosmetics Physician College of Australasia (CPCA) and a Fellow of the Australasian College of Aesthetic Medicine (ACAM). During her GP training Dr Kate studied dermal therapies (she is a qualified dermal therapist) and non-surgical cosmetic injectables both nationally and internationally, and left general practice to practice full time Cosmetic Medicine in 2016. In January 2018, Dr Kate took the step to open her own clinic, Youth Lab. Over the last 13 months Youth Lab has exceeded all expectations and has become one of Perth’s leading anti-ageing clinics, specialising in non-surgical cosmetic injectable treatments and advanced dermal therapies. At just 31 years of age, Dr Kate has developed a strong reputation on social media and is in a unique position to engage, empower and educate her patients (and followers) to take control of their bodies, their health and how they age.
Tell us why you’re looking forward to speaking at BEAUTY & SPA Insiders
This will be my first speaking event so I am so excited to be given the opportunity to share my knowledge and hopefully deliver an informative and interesting talk. I’m also looking forward to soaking up all of the tips and tricks from the other speakers.
How did you get into your current role?
My role as owner and medical director of my clinic Youth Lab was a natural progression. I went from dabbling in cosmetic medicine as an intern, specialising as a GP to practicing full time as a cosmetic physician. Opening a clinic and pursuing my business goals was always underlying everything I did, it was just about waiting for the right moment.
Tell us your daily routine in a nutshell
I am up at 5/5.30am every day, this morning routine started when I was studying for my fellowship exams when I used to study every morning. I make myself a double espresso and sit quietly before doing some reading (either blogs, my book of the moment or journal articles). I then get onto some of my to-do list and then hit the gym for an hour before I head into the clinic. I have to exercise in the morning but if the gym isn’t calling then I take my dogs for a walk.
What is your favourite treatment/procedure to perform and why?
I love full face rejuvenation using as many tools at my disposal such as neuromodulators, dermal fillers, threads and PRP. That being said the most satisfying treatment is when you are able to use dermal fillers to transform a face in as little as 15 minutes. I always get goosebumps when my patients look into the mirror after their treatment and see an immediate result.
Tell us in 25 words or less why you LOVE your job
I love delivering confidence and being a part in fueling the happiness of my patients.
Top career highlight?
Opening my clinic and seeing my team grow from 4 when we opened in 2018 to a team of 10 just 12 months later whilst setting a new elite standard in Perth.
3 items you never leave the house without?
My phone (how predictable), keys and my water bottle (need to keep this skin hydrated).
Name someone who inspires you and why.
My partner Jon. It’s a cliche I know but I wouldn’t be where I am today without his support and vision for our future. He astounds me both in our business and in our personal life. I am a better person because of him.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see our clinic growing and continuing its success. In 5 years I want to be stepping back a little from my day to day clinical practice to focus on the Youth Lab brand as well as pursuing more speaking and teaching roles. Throw in a few children, more dogs (we have two) and I’m sure I will be just as busy as I am now. I’d like to say retired at 37 but I don’t see that happening 😉
How do you keep yourself motivated?
I don’t believe in motivation. I think if you are focused on a goal and desperate to be the best you can be then there should be no reason for you not to pursue it with everything. I am determined, not motivated. When I have moments of procrastination I allow myself to take time out rather than do work that may not be suboptimal. Planning, persistence and patience is key.
What is your top tip for separating business and pleasure?
My business is my pleasure so I am yet to find the magic formula to separate the two. I think devoting time to yourself away from work is important, always allow time for exercise, friends and family and make sure you switch off completely at least once a week. I am still learning this one.
What is your favourite ‘me time’ activity?
Definitely exercise. I am a gym junkie from way back. Give me an hour at the gym with weights and no distractions and I am happy.
Favourite quote?
My favourite personal quote is “All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother” by Abraham Lincoln.
Another is “We grow fearless when we do things we fear” and “Small daily improvements over time create stunning results” by Robin Sharma.
