Firm.n.Fold Visceral Massage Workshops
Sep 17 – Sep 18 all-day

Visceral Massage Techniques for Remedial Massage Therapists is a series of exciting, innovative two-day massage workshops presented by Greg Morling Med. DRM. QA (distinction). They will be held during September and October on the Gold Coast, in Sydney, Darwin and Hobart.

Visceral massage is based on specific palpatory techniques that encourage the normal mobility, tone and motion of the viscera (internal organs) and their connective tissues including fascia.

These gentle massage techniques can potentially improve the functioning of individual organs, the systems the organs function within, and the structural integrity of the entire body.

Massage of the internal organs has long been a component of some therapeutic systems in Oriental medicine and became part of natural medicine in the Western model via the work of osteopath, Jean-Pierre Barral.

Visceral massage may relieve chronic conditions caused by lower back pain, internal scar tissue, sluggish bowel movement, constipation, pelvic pain and endometriosis to name a few conditions that Barral sites in his texts.

Anxiety, depression and posttraumatic stress disorder conditions as issues that may be eased by visceral massage.

Research conducted by Professor Bud Craig from the US has now provided evidence that the visceral system is our “second brain” and that the insular cortex in the brain receives messages from the organs.

His work could well lead to a reappraisal of how our keen palpatory skills could be beneficial in assisting in the treatment of anxiety issues, reduction of pain by vagal nerve activation and even in the clearer understanding of our ‘self’.

Accompanying these emotional benefits the massage skills you will learn may assist in the physical elimination of colon waste and be a natural detox for your client.

Greg will also present scar tissue and fascia release processes that can be part of visceral massage.

This unique, ground-breaking massage workshop illuminates a new therapeutic path for us that truly honours our palpatory skills for both the physical and emotional well-being of our clients.

What you will learn:

  • History and historic perspectives of therapeutic visceral massage
  • Review of abdominal muscles
  • Anatomy of the visceral system
  • Draping and massage preparation including use of heat application
  • Basic and advanced massage techniques for visceral massage, adhesion separation and increased visceral movement for a range of internal organs and associated dysfunction
  • Related reflex points for a range of visceral organs
  • Relationship between the gut (viscera), anterior insular cortex and human awareness
  • Indications and contra-indications of visceral massage

“I have been working extensively on the visceral system during my studies and dissection on the Iliopsas at the University of NSW during the past years,” says Greg Morling.

“Deep pelvic dissections provided me with both an anatomical understanding of the psoas but also the internal organs of the pelvic visceral system.

“This workshop builds from this past study and is particularly focused on giving the clinically experienced massage therapist skills to address issues and conditions related to these internal organs.”

Lutronic Device Workshops with Dr Glen Calderhead
Sep 19 @ 6:30 pm – Sep 22 @ 9:30 pm

Dr Glen Calderhead PhD, DrMedSci, FRSM, Vice President, Scientific Affairs of Lutronic Corporation, is visiting Australia this month to provide an informative presentation on Lutronic’s new enCurve body contouring technology, as well as the ever-popular Healite II LED technology.

Dr Calderhead was the first to champion the introduction of near-infrared 830 nm as an LED wavelength in addition to refining therapeutic approaches with existing wavelengths.

He has also published a number of scientific papers and is the co-author and contributor to several books on laser therapy, laser surgery and simulation surgery.

The information evenings will provide an opportunity for attendees to discover the true science of LED phototherapy with Healite II.

An exciting highlight of the presentation evenings will be Dr Calderhead’s discussion on the latest Lutronic innovation, enCurve; a state of the art body contouring technology that uses apoptosis-inducing radio frequency to effectively target and eliminate fat cells permanently.

Working through controlled delivery of energy deep into the adipocytes, enCurve utilises a specialised frequency (27.12 MHz) to selectively target and heat adipocytes to the optimal temperature to cause denaturation of cells, resulting in their elimination.

The enCurve is designed to easily treat all indications including the entire abdomen and waistline simultaneously for more natural results and full coverage as well as treat the thighs and arms. Dr Calderhead will also discuss how the combination treatment of enCurve and Healite II delivers even more effective results in a much quicker time frame. The evening sessions – 6.30-9.30pm – will be held:

Melbourne: September 19, The Como Melbourne

Brisbane: September 21, Stamford Plaza

Sydney: September 22, Sofitel Sydney Wentworth

A5M Workshop: Effective Interventions for Healthy Ageing
Oct 14 – Oct 15 all-day

Genetics, lifestyle, and disease processes affect the rate of ageing between and within all individuals.

As we pinpoint the influences on how we age, we can think about new and more effective interventions that may prevent disease and promote healthy ageing.

Integrative, preventative and anti-ageing medicine is based on a preventative approach to patient care – the early detection, prevention and treatment of age-related disease.

It is when we understand the connections between the pillars of ageing that we can counteract age-related decline, prevent and manage chronic disease and disorders and promote healthy ageing.

The two-day Metabolic Disorders and the Ageing Process workshop hosted by The AustralAsian Academy of Anti-Ageing Medicine (A5M) will examine the four major metabolic disorders contributing to the acceleration of the ageing process, discuss the processes of insulin resistance and define specific treatment and management protocols.

You will review the pathways leading to obesity and discuss the latest weight loss treatment protocols; risk factors for heart disease, and how common cardiovascular disorders accelerate the ageing process.

Interactive sessions will include case studies to review laboratory tests to evaluate insulin resistance, diabetes, and risk factors for heart disease.

The workshop is designed for pharmacists, medical practitioners new to the area of integrative and preventative medicine, naturopaths, nutritionists and dietitian, osteopaths and chiropractors, dentists, and other allied health practitioners.

This workshop is a component of the Australasian Certification in AntiAgeing Medicine (ACAAM) and taken as standalone modules or part of the complete program.

  • Workshop topics to be covered
Understand pathways leading to obesity and discuss the latest weight loss treatment protocols.
  • Review risk factors for heart disease, and how common cardiovascular disorders accelerate the ageing process.
  • Learn how diabetes affects individuals and discuss management and treatment protocols.
