How to Educate Your Clients About Skin Needling at Home

skin needling

Skin needling, a minimally invasive skin treatment suitable for all skin types, can now be safely done at home. The team at Clear Skincare Clinics are in favour of advising their clients to safely try the procedure at home to continue their skincare treatment outside of booked appointments.

But before sending clients home, their team recommends explaining an in-depth guide on how to perform skin needling safely, the benefits of regularly using face rollers and what steps they need to do after finishing the treatment.

The Benefits of Skin Needling

At the height of the pandemic, lockdown forced everyone to put their regular skincare treatments on hold. The Clear Skincare Clinics team introduced Face Rollers to their product line to help clients learn how to micro-needle at home. The face roller works similarly to in-clinic procedures, making microscopic incisions to stimulate collagen production. The benefits of skin needling at home include; improved skin quality and texture, reduced fine lines and wrinkles, and even increases the absorption of skincare products and active ingredients of up to 20%.

How to Use Face Rollers at Home

For your clients, face rollers are an excellent alternative to micro-needling at home. They help to deliver similar results and can be done safely with the right knowledge. Here are some steps to safely help guide your clients when skin needling at home.

First, they must thoroughly cleanse their face using their daily cleanser. Once finished, the skin must be completely dry. They should then divide the face into six sections, working through each section at a time.

Once they’ve established the six sections, they should apply the roller gently using up, across and diagonal motions to create a star shape pattern, only using a pressure they are comfortable with. Altogether, they should role each area 7-10 times, lifting the roller between each pass. Rolling the entire face should only take 3-5 minutes.

After finishing the treatment, the client should apply an active ingredient serum right away as the skin is plump and ready to absorb up to 20% more of their chosen serum, giving more outstanding results. For best results, recommend repeating 2-3 times a week.

Does at-home needling replace in-clinic needling treatments?

While at-home skin needling is safe for your clients, it shouldn’t replace in-clinic treatments. Clinical rollers have deeper micro-needles, allowing for more significant results and work better for resurfacing acne scars, fine lines or skin texture. A significant portion of needling results is the care that goes into the client’s skincare routine when they leave their in-clinic treatment. It’s important to note that face roller needles are typically 0.25 or 0.75 millimetres, so while it’s safe and effective at home, home micro-needling is mostly beneficial for assisting with the absorption of active ingredients as part of a skincare routine. So, when clients couple at-home needling with in-clinic treatments, they will see far better overall results for their skin.
