Self Space Opens The UK’s First Mental Health Storefront For On-Demand Therapy

The Self Space flagship is set to become a mental health and wellness staple for Londoners.

UK-based psychology service Self Space has officially opened their new flagship space on High Street of Shoreditch, London, offering instant access to psychology services. The expansion makes Self Space the UK’s first on-demand mental health service, with no waitlists and flexible booking every day of the week for solo or couples sessions, student sessions and executive coaching.

According to Self Space’s founder and clinical leader Jodie Cariss, this new storefront is set to make therapy “as everyday as going to the gym, getting a haircut, or grabbing a coffee.” The startup itself was founded on the principle of offering ‘a good conversation with a qualified person’ and making mental wellness as much of a priority for clients as going to the gym or investing in skincare for their physical health.

The latest addition to Self Space’s services makes seeking mental health services less daunting and much more accessible to all, eliminating the need for lengthy consultations or waitlists. Patients will be able to make same-day bookings with access to over 50 professionals on the Self Space team, which is almost unheard of in standard psychology practices.

The process is simple: clients fill out a short survey via the website or QR code in the storefront window to match them with a therapist that best suits their needs, with available times on the day. Individual sessions start at GBP £60 for 30 minutes, with discounts for students and NHS workers.

Since launching the flagship store, the response has been phenomenal, according to Self Space’s social media. Walk-ins have been incredibly popular, with “people who have never had therapy before popping in for a session, just because they saw us on the High Street,” one post on @TheSelfSpace Instagram reads.

The High Street space will also be offering workshops and group sessions, as well as a gathering space for like-minded people in the local community. In addition to the new flagship building, Self Space has recently opened a new psychology office in Manchester, marking the fourth location alongside the Brighton, Borough and Rivington Street spaces.

While there is no word about a location in Australia, we sure hope to see the mental health offering broaden and made more accessible in this country, too.
